What about disabling the caps lock key in keyboard modifier settings
Do you mean exactly what I show in this video at 3:00 ?
Gary, I have something if you know how to go around this: I have chinese language downloaded because I am learning chinese. But it annoys me whenever I highlight a text to speak, the little prompt will show up asking to speak in english or chinese. My system language is english and the text is english. Why bother asking me to choose which language. This is so annoying.
Not sure how to get around that.
Amazing work 👍👍
This may not apply to this video, however…i found a quark with MATCH function. I have a second table with a list of stock prices from $11 to $18. I use the index and match functions to find items in the second table. However, if i search for $10, it’s outside the range of $11 to $18, so it throws an error because i was using ‘find largest value’. I had to switch it to ‘find smallest value’ for searches that could potentially fall under $11. I continue using ‘find largest value’ for searches potentially above $18. I hope i explained that ok. Just wanted to pass this along.
Gary! Help! How about removing the delay when you turn on Caps-Lock. I switched to Mac 12 years ago and this still causes me problems (I use Caps-Lock a lot!)
If you want, you can turn on System Settings, Accessibility, Keyboard, Slow Keys and set the Slow Keys slider to the Shortest delay. There's also a third-party extension that will do it, as well as some more in-depth keyboard tools like Karabiner Elements that will do it too.
Thank you for these tips!!! I’ve been annoyed for so long because the larger battery indicator was showing the battery percentage of my other devices. Now I’ve got it set to show my phone’s battery. Very helpful advice!
Great video, Gary, and quite helpful! I'm wondering, though, whether the shared file is "live" - in other words, does the recipient see changes that the sender might make over time?
Depends on the app and how you are sharing it. With an app like Pages, for instance, if you collaborate on a document you can both work on it in real time.
It worked! So nice to be rid of that indicator. BTW, I used the tips in your "How To Capture Any Text From Your Screen On Mac, iPhone or iPad" video to grab the long command and paste it into Terminal.
Great as always, Gary. May I ask how you draw that perfect circle to zoom (0:39) in while reducing the opacity in the background? Is that a feature of Screenflow? When I use the Free Hand, I can only draw squares and rectangles. Would love to do that circle as well if possible. Any help?
Yes, it is a part of Screenflow. A freehand callout gives you a choice between a circle with a radius, or drawing a box.
Ugh, I was looking for this a few months back. I think I found some hack, but the next time I need this I'll come here. I'm a developer, and for some god-forsaken reason our company has us program in CAPS. Arghhh
For the first time ever, I didn't find an answer to my problem. I have 1 sheet which is 4 pages. 2 are data and the other two are absolutely blank and I can't get rid of them. Macmost is still my go to for anything 'how to'.
Do you mean when printing? See ua-cam.com/video/w7WX0jXbJYM/v-deo.html
Ok so this is a similar but different question. On ipad and iphone only when i send a message or a comment like this the i does not auto capitalize in the middle of a sentence. I have gone into settings and turned on the appropriate settings but still no change. This used to work a year or so ago but something has changed with the latest updates. Anyone else having this issue and if so does anyone have a remedy. Thank you for taking the time to read this. ❤️🇨🇦
Just in specific apps, like the UA-cam app? Or even in Messages, Mail and Pages?
@@macmost thank you for your reply. It seems to be happening is all apps like what you have mentioned here. Macbook does not seem to do this.
@@macmost ok I seem to have figured this out. Go to keyboards, then text replacements and make the changes there. Let me know if this is actually the fix or just dumb luck.
@@paullemay3218 All I can suggest is you check your settings again.
As for Text Replacements, did you just add one to replace i with I? You shouldn't need that if Auto-Capitalization and Auto-Correction are on.
Hi Gary, looking forward to Sequoia but I have a different question and not sure of another way to contact you. I have just seen MAc Vision Pro in Apple’s website. It looks fantastic and I wondered if you will be introducing it to us in the near future. Thank you so much.
I've only done one video on it so far. ua-cam.com/video/2K8IfHVFCOA/v-deo.html I did an overview for patrons when it came out.
Always great content but this is especially good, Gary. Thank you. I design houses and use multiple CAD software and I keep my cap locks on for text, but that indicator often gets in the way of my cursor doing something. Being able to shut this off is great thank you.
Probably the best bet is to shut it off in the Settings menu. Occasionally, I hit the lock. But, not often enough to be bothered by it.
I agree. But many people use Caps Lock and don't want to go without it.
Thanks. An irritation is that the spelling checker is turned off for words typed with caps lock on. Transformation option is available to change any highlighted text in almost every situation an every app EXCEPT in Numbers, where it is most needed to emphasise column and row names.
First, you can and should use Format sidebar, Text, Show more text options, Capitalization, All Caps instead of actually typing in all caps. But also header rows and columns are usually emphasized with a background color in most styles. You can also make them bold or larger, etc.
A very useful and informative video tutorial today! Thank you, Gary! 👏❤️
Thank you for this video!
Oooh I think I’ll love using stage manager! Thank you for reading my mind!
This shortcut is not working after update to MacOS 14.5 Sonoma. Any fixes for that?
See the description or the pinned comment at the top.
Thanks man i tried all this things but logout shortcut it's too strong and i cant reassign it, have you got any idea to do so? it's command+shift q , whenever i try to remap hitting those buttons the mac open the windows to logout and nothing i cant reassign it best regard
Why do you need to disable that one though? Hitting 3 keys is hard to do by accident. Plus it doesn't log you out, it just brings up the dialog box asking if you want to log out. Just cancel.
Could you show how to use shortcuts to make reminders that repeat every 30 minutes that can be activated using Siri? The Reminders app alone cannot do this. I imagine this can be done by producing a new reminder each time or maybe it would be better to edit an existing reminder? There are a lot of apps out there, dedicated to making short recurring reminders like this, to remind people about cooking or laundry or taking a break or exercise, etc. they have all sorts of features like changing the reminder interval or the number of times the reminder repeats, etc.. to be able to do this with Shortcuts and Reminders would save buying another app.
You can't create a repeating reminder in the Reminders app for less than 1 hour. A third-party app is what you need if you want a notification every 30 minutes. Or, use the Clock app and set a time for 30 minutes, then when you get the alert you can restart it. Or, in the Clock app set alarms for every time you want them.
I just bought a new M3 iMac. My windows go to the left in a column and I can’t drag and drop between windows. How do I fix that? I only ever have one active window at a time because the others sit in that bay on the left.
It sounds like maybe you have turned on Stage Manager? See ua-cam.com/video/dbndfDB6EEA/v-deo.html
@@macmost ooh yes, at setup… now I have vocab to work with. Thank you 🙌❤️🦘🇦🇺👍
Sudo nano /etc/hosts
That is great Gary. I am one who has struggled with this now I understand photos and iTunes. Thank you for the clarity.
I remember before Photos when iPhoto was a thoroughly USABLE system without all the BS.
What do you mean by "BS?" What is it about Photos you don't like, specifically?
Great video! The only thing I really miss in Reminders are repeating tasks that do not add the repeat interval to the date they were planned but to the date they were fulfilled.
Doesn't work for reminder intervals less than an hour, like if I want to be reminded to check on something cooking slowly every 30 minutes. It can be done (awkwardly) by making 2 reminders, separated by 30 minutes that repeat every hour. I could live with that if I could reuse those 2 all the time, but there's no way to do that. Why, oh why, can't they just add "minutes" to the repeat interval?
Use the Clock app, set a timer.
I Use safari as my main browser, but Safari is slow and buggy . Very often it refuses to open pages (freezes) when other browsers open them without any problem (Chrome and Brave are my alternative browsers)
That's not normal. Safari should never freeze or refuse to open pages. It doesn't for me and others. Perhaps you have an extension or a network issue? You should get that checked out.
Now I know I can get rid of all the writing Apps I've used so far: I can manage my content production via the native Apps. Thank you for your informative videos!
Thanks man
Thank you!
This is gold, thanks!!!
it is quite hard for me to understand the dragging of windows to another screen. does the drag work only when the window is minimised? Because i am not able to drag window to another screen when the window is full screen. It's such a pain. Please help!!!
when in the full screen , the "move to LG ULTRAGEAR" option is disabled
When a window is Full Screen it is no longer a window, really. You can't drag it until you exit full screen (minimizing is something else entirely). Just take it out of full screen mode.
Thanks for the video! So would you suggest to format a large hard drive (over 16TB) to APFS rather than Mac OS Extended (journaled)? As far as I knew the APFS file format was mainly intended for SSD drives, but if it's a better option even for spinning disks drives I'll go for it from now on!
APFS is fine for HDDs, yes.
@@macmost Thanks!! (new sub) :)
Great! I have wondered about the Template ... now I know. And watching this was a great way to cleanse my palate after watching the debate!
That’s cool. But how do you change your artist photo?
Each song has artwork. There's no artwork for album or artist. It is just taken from the songs.
I just switched from Windows (20 years) to Macbook (2 weeks ago) and I was scared of all the changes especially Stage Manager so I turned it off, today I am more comfortable with mac so I turned Stage Manager on and watched this video. Looks like a great feature and I cant wait to code from a cafe LOL
Always great info, Gary. One thing I really loathe about Pages is Sharing and Collaborating Pages prompts to move the document to the Cloud.. Sometimes it opens the Cloud. Not always. But what is always does NOT do is actually move the document. I have also found that sometimes, not always. the shared document has a number appended to it. e.g. MyGreatBook becomes MyGreatBook 2, or 3 and so on. And Styles cannot be added to a shared document. I have reported this to Apple but no action has been taken.
you earned my patreon with this!!
Thanks for your support!
Thank you thank you thank you!!!!!
thanks Gary, you just accelerate my writing
Actually this changes the scaling, not the resolution. This is so the text rendered still matches the display density, it's more like zooming a webpage than zooming a bitmap image.
Apple calls it "Resolution" in System Settings and documentation. If you want to think of it as scaling, that's fine though. But don't confuse others.
Thanks very much, Gary, for this informative video! Always learn something new about Pages from your videos.
Thank you I finally did it. You save me a lot of work
I use this function, but not all the nuances. So many little bits I was missing. Thanks Gary, more great tips. I also didn't realise if I clicked on the floating thumbnail I could work from there, I was always waiting for it to save.
Wonderfully explained, and I am so happy the "one window at a time" setting exists! Thanks for sharing
